Daniel Cormier expects a tough fight against Roy Nelson

Houston – will fight as a heavyweight for the last time this Saturday night against in the co-main event of . He has earlier said that he will come down to light heavyweight no matter the outcome of the Nelson fight. Cormier’s reasons for dropping to light heavyweight is no secret, he wants a shot at ’ light heavyweight strap. That being said, the former Olympic wrestler stated that is not looking ahead at light heavyweight or past Roy Nelson.

As a professional athlete, you can’t look past anyone,” explains Cormier. “Roy Nelson could put me out with one punch. I’m fully aware of that. Roy Nelson could submit me. Roy Nelson could put me in a crucifix as he did everyone else on The Ultimate Fighter. I’ve been watching him since then.

Cormier’s intention on challenging Jones has started even before he joined UFC. He was also vocal about wanting an immediate title fight once he drops to light heavyweight division. Despite of that, Cormier is well aware that a loss to Nelson will certainly derail his plans of ruling 205. He admitted that Nelson poses a threat to his plans and he expects a war come Saturday night.

He presents a lot of problems for me because he’s my size. He’s not tall, so he’s going to be a little harder to take down,” continues Cormier. “He’s got very good jiu-jitsu which will balance out my wrestling. And not only does he do that well, he gets up very well, so I will have to be in better shape because if I’m going to take him down I’m going to have do it over and over again, and he’s durable.
